Review:
There are risks when shooting a romantic comedy and reality. Too little, and it feels like a desperate attempt to give credibility to the film. Too much and it starts to feel uncomfortable as the comedy was buried in what appears to be a matter of life lessons. Five-Year Engagement trying to find a balance between comedy and reality and then a bit more than two hours, almost succeeds.Thats not mean the movie is bad. Far from it, especially compared to what usually passes for a romantic comedy these days. Drive it (Emily Blunt and Jason Segel) has a wonderful, easy chemistry and director Nicholas Stoller (who co-wrote with Segel) use cast in supporting talent to add new insights and the layer is a nice directly story.Violet (Blunt) is a post-doctoral students. Tom (Segel) is a star that will rise to a chef in San Francisco. They can focus on the first anniversary, and while the most romantic farce would end here, the Five-Year Engagement do something romantic farce fail to do - it occurs after the final happy. In doing so, we get to see every crack, seam and the ball in their relationship, out of dissatisfaction with Toms leaving behind his dream to follow Lila after receiving a thank god the University of Michigan , purple increasing frustration with how the changes while Tom relocation. Its him a credit of Segel and Stoller situations do occur organically and without feeling forced value, shock, and when things start deteroriate, we not only saw it coming, we warn the nod because it inevitable. The films have problems though and almost capsized movie. The single most glaring time to run. The film clock in at a little more than two hours long, and you feel every minute of it tedious. The pacing and editing is a disaster closely and occasionally, watching feel more like a chore than a good time. This is partly because the film, while sending invoices to the company as a romantic comedy, is coming only in spurts. The truth of being stranded in a relationship takes center stage, which is in itself is not a bad thing, but in a comedy, it really drags down. The film the ending is typical rom-com schmaltz, though, as if the filmmakers break out of their diseases, thought hey, are not we make a comedy? smart and ended the movie with a happy end note. In, originally, the Five-Year Interaction leverage entertainment, but can be a lot more able to hit the delicate balance they are trying for.
